The Straw Royal Palace is a reconstruction of the traditional residence of the Rwandan kings. The palace is built entirely from natural materials such as straw, wood and reeds, and shows how the monarchs of Rwanda used to live.

RWANDA

🇷🇼 KINDERGARTEN IN NKAMBA, RWANDA

Completion spring 2023

After only a few months, the construction of the kindergarten in Nkamba was completed next to the primary school. All rooms are furnished so that the little ones can enjoy playful education and a daily hot meal starting in the summer. The construction of an administration building, including a room for the needs of young girls, was also built on the site by WEF East Africa.

The partner NGO NOBE was officially recognised by the state on 8 September 2022. This non-governmental organisation has the following main objectives: to promote cooperation, partnership and assistance between individuals or groups in Germany and Rwanda in particular, and the rest of the world in general, in the fields of education and socio-economics.

Report from NOBE 2025 (excerpt)

The members of NOBE, NKAMBA ORGANISATION FOR BETTER EDUCATION, are very grateful for the financial support provided by the Werner Erkes Foundation. This support has enabled us to pay the additional salaries of the teachers, cook, cleaner and caretaker at the primary school, as well as the salaries of the teachers and assistants at the NKAMBA SUNLIGHT ACADEMY nursery school. It has also helped to cover the cost of compulsory lunches for the primary school pupils.

The school achieved the best results in the entire sector last year. All Year 6 pupils passed the state examination.
Unfortunately, NOBE is still limited in terms of support from local organisations. The foundation has not yet been laid, namely state recognition of NKAMBA SUNLIGHT ACADEMY.

The institution responsible for the recognition of schools, NESA (National Examination and School Inspection Authority), visited NKAMBA SUNLIGHT ACADEMY in January 2025.
